Wax of the Day: Elegant Expressions - Sun Dried Linen (Big Lots)

Saturday, May 30, 2015

Today, I melted Sun Dried Linen by Elegant Expressions.  These came in a 1oz pack that was divided into 5 little rose tarts.  I picked these up at Big Lots for $1.00.

Official Scent Description:  I couldn't find one.

So how did it do?

Initial Thoughts:

Well, the wax melts only filled less than half the box.  Boo.  They are really cute, though!  The melts are shaped like little white roses.

Cold Impression:

It is around a medium fragrance strength on cold sniff.  The scent is straight up Bounce dryer sheet smell.  Lovely!

What: 5 melts (totaling 1oz)

How: Glade Warmer

Duration: 6:30pm - 8:00pm

Final Thoughts:

Let's start off positive.  The roses seem to have a bit of glitter inside of them.  (Either that or my warmer plate learned how to produce its own glitter.)  So, it melted pretty.

Okay, now just...

These were pretty awful.  There was no throw whatsoever once it melted.  It was a total bummer.  It didn't even start off strong.  It started off with nothing, and that's all that I got.  Terrible.

Still not sponsored.  Honestly, I wish I had my dollar back.  Poo.

My Weekly Photos: 5/23 - 5/29/15 (and Vlog)

Here's some photos that I took throughout the week.  My Weekly Vlog will also be embedded below as soon as it's live.  I'm having technical difficulties at the moment with that.  I shall prevail!

The highlight of my week was definitely finishing up the overhaul on that rummage sale piece of furniture.

These pictures don't do it justice.  I took a bunch more and hope to make a separate post with more information about it.  Love it, love it, and love it!

We also have some fruits and veggies coming along in the garden.

Left to right:  blueberries, grapes, and a tomato flower.  Whoohoo!

I hope we can get to all of them before the birds do. Though, with the amount of cats we have now, we haven't had quite as many bird problems.  Haha!

There is not much new going on flower-wise around here.

The Angel Wing Begonias are slowly shaping up.  Dad cleaned out the pots and planters on our back porch for some Marigolds.  I even found a Double Knockout rose that was just begging for a picture.

My little Cat Nip is thriving outside.  Well...as long as I keep it watered in this heatwave.

Below the Cat Nip is my Lemon Balm.  I had originally got this years ago because of many articles saying that it repelled mosquitoes.  Well...I got bit about 10 times while trying to take a picture of it.  So...I don't know about all that.

Then, we have our 'Mater bed.  Dad is growing Beef Masters this year.  If they taste even half as good as Beef Steaks, I'll be in heaven.  There is just no comparison between store bought and homegrown tomatoes.  Yum!

Lastly, I just goofed around a bit.

When I was out taking pictures I got reminded of when one of my city friends from up North came to visit me awhile back.  (Miss ya if you are reading this!)

He was so excited and taking pictures of all this "rustic scenery."  I mean he spent hours taking pictures of old tires, pieces of wood, animals, weeds, rusted metal, and even tree bark.  It was a hoot.

I see a lot of people doing it on social media now like Facebook and Instagram.  It cracks me up, because it is just so mundane to me.

I thought I would have a little fun and make an image fit for a city slicker's instagram account:

Haha!  Just insert some deep quote about knowing what's really important in their accompanying text post.   #rustic #simplelife #whatsimportant #hardwork #cleanair #countrybabe #needtoleavethecity #lifelessons #minimalism #blahblahblah

I guess those are like the hash tags they use.  I would hate to see their face when they find out that they aren't any fun places to go around here and the nearest Starbucks is well over a half hour away.  Haha!

I guess this is like when I go into Atlanta or somewhere and sprain my neck trying to stare at the super tall buildings like an idiot.  I once took a picture of sprinklers when I first moved to a city from here, because I had never before seen them.  Haha!  I got teased for a long minute about that.  Turnabout is fair play I guess.  :)

Title and thumbnail image was made by me.  Please don't steal it.  I'm already sick of seeing my thumbnails (especially Friend Mail ones) on other people's youtube videos and blogs.

(This excludes people that have removed them upon my request.  I got nothing but love for them. This is directed more at people that have outright ignored me or refused to remove them.)

Fun fact of the day:  if you just stick any image that you find through google image search on your videos without checking to see if they are for free use...then you are probably stealing someone's hard work.  Don't be a POS thief.

This has been my off topic rant for the day.  I must depart before my sass comes out in full force.  :D

Dollar Tree Haul: Post-it Products, Daisy Bloom Air Fresheners, and New Fabric Refreshers

Wednesday, May 27, 2015

I swear that it's a rare day when my Dollar Tree stores have enough awesome goodies in stock for me to do a proper haul.  But...it happened once again!  Yes!

Paper Labels (30-50pk)

Any time I spot these in the store, I make sure to pick up a few packs.  I still just can't believe they have these for just a buck!  Yes!

They are pretty good quality as well.  I mow through them since I use a bunch each time I send out a care package or friend mail.  These are just invaluable to me.  If you want some, grab them when you spot some in your store.  They sell out almost as soon as they get unpacked in my area.

Patterned Fabric Tape

Washi and other novelty tapes must be doing really well for Dollar Tree, because they just keep cranking out new goodies.  Their newest display has quite a few patterns of floral fabric tape.  I just picked up a couple, but I am forever impressed that Dollar Tree even offers it.

Black Craft Paper (40pk)

This is a pad of all black paper that is just a hair thicker than construction paper.

Post-it Brand Reminder Tags (50pk)

These are actual name brand.  Whoohoo!  Let's take and appreciate whatever buyer Dollar Tree hired, because they are killing it with this stationary stuff lately.

Anyway...these are long tags in which the ends fasten together.  So, you can write on them and attach them around handles, cords, or anything like that.

Post-it Brand Magnetic Grip Discs (2pk)

These look quite spiffy, but they weren't what I thought they were.  Haha!  I thought they were clips.  They actually have a stiff plastic into which you slide you papers or whatnot to hang.  They do seem to grip papers fairly well, but really thin items may slide right out.

Mini Writing Pads (3.5in x 5in; 5 x 35 sheet)

They had these in blue, purple, pink, white, and yellow. I just had to pick these up, because I had just bought a 5pk on Amazon for over $5.  Rage!

Multi-Colored Index Cards (75-100pk)  & Index Card Dividers (12pk)

I don't know what possessed Dollar Tree to make them bring out all these wonderful office supplies, but I hope it sticks.  Haha!

Collapsible Fabric Storage Cubes

Dollar Tree almost always has these year-round.  They just change the colors and patterns up every few months.  Do be aware that there are different sizes.  I picked up the largest size which is a true cube shape.  It is amazing for storing folded clothes.

Pop-up Mesh Laundry Hamper

I got plans for this little dude.  I hope it is large enough to do a DIY I'm planning with it.  We shall see.  The worst that can happen is I end up with just a new hamper.  The horror!

Moisture Trap

These fly off the shelves at my stores.  People come in and buy a giant box at a time.  (Y'all seriously never heard of ordering bulk online?  Geez.)

We keep 2 in our bathroom at all times.  They are awesome!

Daisy Bloom Air Fresheners

I got these in 2 scents: Sunny Bloom & Citrus (yellow) and Juicy Bloom & Raspberry (purple.)

I was weary of these, because they have been hyped up by a lot of Dollar Tree haulers on youtube and facebook.  That usually spells disaster for me in my experience.  Haha!  I still wanted to try them when I finally spotted some, because they are just so cute anyway.

I have had the yellow one out for a little over 48 hours now.  I put it on the medicine cabinet in our super tiny bathroom.  (Seriously, you can hardly sit on the commode without bumping you knees.  Ugh.)  I must say, I'm pleasantly surprised!

It has a very nice floral fragrance.  It isn't an artificial floral either.  It was definitely stronger when I first opened it, but I was still able to catch a whiff when I walked past it today. Nice!

It is definitely not a scent that spreads out more than a foot or two from the flower, but it is doing well for the tiny space.  The packaging even says "for small spaces."  So, I'm happy with it so far.

I will update this post when the fragrance completely fades as well.  I'm curious as to how long it lasts, because I don't see the duration anywhere on the packaging.  We shall see...

Powerhouse Brand Fabric Refreshers (16.9 fl oz)

I got these in Tropical Vacation (orange) and Refreshing Waterfall (blue.)

I actually did a post and video a little bit ago comparing a bunch of different generic fabric refreshers.  So, I couldn't pass these up.

The blue one smells just like your typical "clean" scented fabric refresher.  I have sprayed it liberally on my bed twice each day for the last 4 days.  You can smell it on the surface right after you spray it, but it fades pretty quickly after that.

The orange one smells like a sweet suntan lotion--like coconuts, vanilla, and sugar.  I sprayed this one liberally on my dad's bed twice for the last 4 days.  This one has a strong fragrance on the sprayed surface right after spraying.  Surprisingly, I smelled his bed spread again this morning before I sprayed again and...the scent was still there.  It was a bit lighter, but I still picked up a sweet vanilla-type fragrance on it.  Nice!  I will continue testing it, but I'm pleasantly surprised.

I'm still on the hunt for one that is comparable to name brand, but I take small victories as they come.  Haha!

What do you even call these things?  Trigger lighter?  Grill lighter?  Long neck lighter?  I don't know, but it's a good deal.

Brown Rice (1.5lbs)

This is a pretty good deal for brown rice.  I haven't purchased rice from a Dollar Tree in awhile, because the last time that I did it had little bugs in it.  (It was from a different store in another city.)  I couldn't see the bugs until I went to wash the rice, and they all floated to the top.  Ugh.

I need to make rice in a couple days again.  Wish me luck!

Healthy Max Dog Treats - Hip & Joint Formula

This is a repurchase for me.  My old dog has been walking a bit slower than normal.  So, we thought we would try these out.  They worked great for him.  We actually ran out for awhile, and he started to limp again.

I just wish you could buy these in a bigger quantity.  You are supposed to feed a treat per 10lbs of dog daily.  When you have a big dog, that's a lot.  It's still comparable to the $4 bigger bag of the Pet Armor ones that Walmart sells.  So, I'm happy.

Solar Dancer - Hula Girl

My store just now got these.  I wasn't going to pick it up, but I guess you could say it was love at first sight or some crap.  I saw people saying that she looked weird and scary.  I think she's cute.

(Though, I still find it odd and a bit unsettling that they use cultural caricatures for solar dancers...but I'm not going to go into that.  We'd be here all day, and this is not the place for all that.)

LA Colors - Speckled

There was a new polish on the display.  I can't resist sometimes.  This one is a topper and would not get opaque on its own.

Wax of the Day: Febreze - Mediterranean Lavender

Tuesday, May 26, 2015

Today, we have Mediterranean Lavender by Febreze.  These come in 2.75oz packs divided into 6 cubes.  The retail price for each pack is around $3, and there are often manufacturer coupons available.

The Official Scent Description:  A fresh, botanical scent that mingles the warmth of a Mediterranean breeze with fragrant fields of purple French lavender.

So how did it do for me?

Initial Thoughts:

I had high hopes for this one, because Febreze is the one big store brand (ie: Glade, Airwick, etc) that is the most consistent for me.  Their melts, especially the Gain scent, are very strong and usually perform very well for me.

They do seem to use a different wax blend than the other brands, because their cubes are much softer and melt very easily.  In fact, I recommend storing them in the fridge if you live somewhere exceptionally warm.  The cubes pictured above actually started melting as I was taking the pictures outside for just a couple minutes.

I've even had quite a time getting the wax out afterwards as well.  (I use the freezer method.)  It's just something to note.

I'm wax easy, though.  If they perform well enough, I can forgive a lot of things like staining, ease of removal, and clunky packaging.

Cold Impression:

As for this particular one, it is pretty light on cold sniff.  I'm really surprised since all the other scents I have will knock you down if you sniff too hard.

It smells very clean almost like a bar of soap--a lightly floral and lavender scented bar of soap.

What:  2 wax cubes (just a little under 1oz)

How: Glade Warmer

Duration: 2:15pm - 5:30pm

Final Thoughts:

It started off pretty strong and filled my living room and dining room.  It really softened after about 30 minutes and stayed at that level until it completely stopped having any fragrance about 3 hours later.

I'm underwhelmed with this one.  Like I said before, the other melts I've tried from this brand have done great.  So, I probably wouldn't purchase this particular variety again.

This is not sponsored in anyway.  I paid for this myself using my own money and a manufacturer coupon that I clipped from the newspaper.  I'm still just not that cool.

Nails of the Day - Zoya Leslie and Tiana

Monday, May 25, 2015

The green polish above is 2 coats of Tiana from Zoya, and the purple is 2 coats of Leslie from Zoya.  Both of these polishes are from the Delight Collection that came out this Spring.

This picture was taken inside at night under a daylight bulb with no top coat.

I think Leslie may be my current favorite polish out of my whole collection now.  I have worn it so many times.  I absolutely love the formula, how fast it dries, and the slight blue flash it has.

I was surprised at how much I love it, because the reviews I had seen were not so kind.  A few reviews I saw said that it was quite sheer and needed at least 3 coats.  I was good after 2, and my nail line is very prominent.  It goes to show how different an experience can be from one person to the next.

I have a love-hate relationship with Tiana.  I love the color of it, but the formula is just okay.  I felt it was a bit thick for my tastes.  Also, I had bought a polish right before I got this one that ended up being an exact dupe at 20% of the retail price.  So, I'm probably a little biased.

If you remember my Swatch It Out post about the Wet n Wild Silver Lake Collection (here), I showed a fabulous green called Tree Hugger.  It is identical to Tiana on my swatch sticks and has a much better formula.

Weekly Photos: 5/16 - 5/22/15 (and Vlog)

Saturday, May 23, 2015

I'm really enjoying taking pictures throughout the week and sharing them with y'all.  It used to be a huge hobby of mine, but I quit doing it for several years.  Feels great to take pictures of more than hauls.  (I still enjoy that, too.)

I hope y'all had a wonderful week and are in the midst of a fun-filled (or Netflix filled, oh yeah) weekend.  On to the pictures!

We only have one new flower this week, and it is a returning one from last year.

My dad got really obsessed with these Blanket Flowers (or Gaillardia) last year and planted a ton.  Only 2 have come back even though he babysat the fool out of them last year.  It is hard to grow anything in our soil anyway.  (Curse you, red clay!)

I took the picture on the left at the beginning of the week and the right one a few days later.  I love how the petals uncurl and get brighter and brighter.

I was so desperate for flower pictures that I plucked a dandelion.  Haha!  (I feel bad that I plucked it.  It didn't deserve that.)

To the right are some more pictures of our Knockout roses: double on top and single on the bottom.  My scary neighbors have a gorgeous and enormous Knockout rose bush I wish I could take a picture of, but well...they are scary.

My poor cat nip seeds that I sprouted have been through some hard times.  I noticed a thick layer of white mold forming and the top of the paper pots a few days ago.  It kept growing no matter what I did, and it was starting to kill off my sproutlings.  So, I moved those suckers outside.

Luckily, the bright sun has almost killed the mold completely in just a few days.  There is still some on the outside of the pots that you can see in the close up picture, but none in the soil itself.

Also, yep, the retaining wall is still down.  We are still researching options for supplies, where to put the dirt, and all that.  It hasn't rained in the last 2 weeks.  So, it hasn't been a huge problem yet.  Once we dig it out, we can scrap all the steel from the old wall and make a few bucks, too.  Whoohoo!

We've been working on that $2 furniture piece that I bought last week a little each day.  It was a bear to clean.  It took 2 SOS pads and a lot of sanding to smooth out the rusted places.

The top (bottom right) turned out great.  My dad biscuited together 4 poplar boards from an old rotten tree he chopped up and planed down.  It has different color lines, worm holes, and the whole bit.  I didn't have the heart to stain it in fear that the natural beauty of the wood would be covered up.  So, we did 3 coats of sanding sealer and 4 coats of spray polyurethane.  It's smooth like glass.

I will probably make a separate post to go into more detail about the work we did on it, but it's done.  It's fabulous looking.  Yes!

Y'all knew cats were coming, right?

These are some of the new baby friends that have showed up this week.  There are actually three, but it was hard enough to get the top picture of the two.  I had to take it through 2 doors with my zoom on.  Those little critters are fast!

On the bottom left is their hiding spot.  It is perfect to protect them from predators.  (Like me, apparently.)  They can fit through there, but nothing else can.

Then, we have their momma.  She is nuts, but she is a good momma.  She hates people.  She even sits under the trailer and yells at me.  I hope to catch it on tape someday, because it sounds like that world's angriest cat video that went around a few years back.

Interesting story with her is that she is actually fixed.  The TNR lady captured her a few houses down 2 or 3 weeks back.  The vet told her she was nursing, but we could never find her kittens.  She still watches over, plays, and protects the fool out of them.  It is cute.  (Even though she is a furry ball of evil.)

If you watch my Weekly Vlogs on my Youtube channel, you have probably seen these guys.  They are my front porch gang of cats.  They live the good life.

Apparently, my buddy cat is part noodle.

Here are some more friends that visited during the week:  some long lost friends and a newbie.

Fun fact:  I used to think the top right cat and the momma cat were the same cat.  Not so!  Not even the same gender.  Haha!

Of course, I had to add a picture of ol' Fluff herself.  This is one of my indoor cats that bosses me around and judges me each day.  I wouldn't have it any other way.

I also found out that the DIY nails racks that I made awhile back hold 6-pack wax melts perfectly.  You can fit 49 packs per full sheet sized rack.  I consider that a win!

Though, now it looks like I own a wax store.  No regrets!

Finally, the absolute highlight of my week was getting my new camcorder.  Yes!

My old one that I've had for 6 years finally bit the dust.  Thankfully, I had been saving for quite awhile for a new one and was able to get this beauty.  (Sony HDR CX405)  It was way less expensive than I thought it would be.  Technology advances are a beautiful thing.

I look forward to tinkering around with it and learning all its nifty tricks.

It reminds me of when DVD players first came out and they were like $500.  Now, you can get one for $20.

It already has cat hair stuck to the strap.  It was meant to be.

Haul Blog: CVS, Big Lots, Lowe's, DT, and Walmart

Wednesday, May 20, 2015

If you follow my youtube channel, I do videos on occasion called "Haul Vlogs."  In each video, I take y'all around with me as I ramble and shop for the things that will be in upcoming hauls.

Well, yesterday, I finally got to go back into town with my shopping buddy for another trip.  Whoohoo!  Only I couldn't film, because my old camcorder finally died.  (New one is in the mail.  No worries.)

So, I thought it might for fun to do something similar but in a blog post format.  Proceed with caution and a possibly a snack. :D

Y'all know I mean business when I put on the pink rodeo ball cap.  I can't be bothered with things like my hair when I got deals to find.

Beside the picture of my capped visage is some views of the drive there.  It is definitely one of the more scenic routes we take even if you go interstate.

The picture is the bottom right is of the giant dragon statue that is pretty famous around there.  One of the local firework companies had it built.  Bless his heart, though, one of his ears broke off.

Also, I just can't believe I was able to get a picture of that dragon with my ancient Fuji camera (10 years old) from a moving vehicle on the interstate.  I wish I was this lucky in picking lotto numbers or something.  Dang.

The first stop was CVS to do the Scott toilet paper deal.  (When in doubt use your ECBs on toilet paper.  You can't go wrong.)

They also had some deal going where you got a free reusable bag and 30% off store brand stuff to carry out in it.  So, I picked up some of my favorite nail polish remover.

It's the CVS non-acetone formula.  It is so good.  I just hope they aren't discontinuing it, because they had some on clearance as well.  Not cool, CVS.  Not cool.

The next stop was Big Lots--one of my favorite stores ever when I have money.

This was the particular Big Lots that I usually find a crap ton of deals and awesome clearance.  Well...I wonder if they got a new manager or something because...it wasn't near as good as it usually is.

They didn't have half of the candles that the other stores have.  They had clearance shoved everywhere instead of having a specific section.  And can we talk about how they display their nail polishes?  (This goes for all Big Lots, at least in my area.)

The bottom two pictures above are how this store does the nail polish.  This is better than it usually is, but you will never sell off the polishes this way.  No one has time to dig through all of those until you are selling them for a quarter or something.  Most of the polishes don't have the name on top.  So, you would literally have to sit in the floor and go through every bottle.  Just no.

Also, why are they selling the Sally Hansen triple shines for $4.50?  Are you serious?  Anyway...

I still bought way too much crap.  Those dang Buzz coupons get me every time.  I also found some great food and candles on clearance.  So, a haul is coming.  Oh yes.

I have learned to never have anything but the lowest of expectations when going into any of the Dollar Trees in my area.  It is just better for the mind.

Well...I was pleasantly surprised this time!  I actually found stuff.  My shopping buddy did, too.  Oh my goodness...

I finally convinced him to even go in there with me by offering to pay for both of our things.  He still wasn't happy about it and was none too shy to let me know.  Well, he ended up getting over $20 of things for himself and the dog.  Haha!

I also got a lot of things myself including 2 more fabric refreshers that you see there in the bottom right picture.  (Yes, I still have a problem with collecting cheap fabric refreshers.  The hope is still alive!)

You know what that means?  Dollar Tree Haul forthcoming...oh yeah!

My buddy also ran in Lowe's when I went to Big Lots.  We needed sanding sealer for a piece of furniture that we are refinishing.  Did y'all know that a quart of sanding sealer is over $16 now?!  When did that happen?  I don't even want to know what a quart of polyurethane costs now!  Geez...there it is in the upper right corner in all it's 16 dollar glory.

We also went into to the store that eats a piece of my soul upon every entry--Walmart.  I was in the same parking lot and needed a back up of my favorite top coat and some almond milk.  I did find a couple deals including an clearance exercise mat and some natural cat litter made out of corn to try.

I still spent way too much in there.  I stand by what I've said in the past.  Unless there is a crazy good clearance deal, Walmart is very overpriced especially on groceries.

With a truck cab full of junk, we hit the road again.

The sky was so pretty yesterday.  It almost made me forget about the beads of sweat rolling down my back and the mosquito bites up and down my legs.  It was just lovely.

I did manage to snag a picture from the car of the lake that is in that town's state park.  (Go camera!)  Tennessee has a lot of issues for sure, but the scenery isn't one of them.

As always, I carted all the stuff in and piled it on my stove in the middle of my tiny and dated kitchen to bask under the cheap fluorescent lights.  Hauls are coming.  You have been warned.  :)

Swatch It Out: Rainbow Honey - The Yokai Collection

Tuesday, May 19, 2015

Today I am discussing and showing swatches of the Limited Edition Yokai Collection from Rainbow Honey.

I had purchased these around holiday time when the company had a sale going, but I had had my eye on this collection for awhile before that.  What can I say?  My inner nerd couldn't resist a good coupon code.  Haha!

I don't know if all of these polishes are still available to purchase or if they will be restocked.  I thought I would go ahead and discuss them anyway since there are barely any reviews out there about the company or the polishes outside of their monthly description bag.

Let's get to the swatches!

Company Description:

The Malevolent Wild Demon
Oni are generally depicted as wicked and hideous and our "Oni" may be wicked and supernatural, but with its myriad of glass flecks and multi-chromatic shimmer it is hard to call it hideous

My Notes:

The swatch above is of 2 coats without a top coat.  I took it outside on a sunny day at about 3:30pm.

The formula is amazing!  It dried super smooth and glossy without a top coat.  It also dried very quickly.

It looks so much better on the nail than in the bottle.  This antique bronze may be a new obsession of mine.  It almost makes me want autumn to come back around.

It also looks so much prettier on the nail than it does on the bottle.

Company Description:

The Mischievous River Child
"Kawako" is our interpretation of the Kappa, depicted as everything from a water sprite to a river demon. Erring on the gentler side, "Kawako" is full of gorgeous silver and ice blue shimmer.

My Notes:

The above picture is of 2 coats with no top coat.  I took it outside on a sunny day around 4:30pm.

The formula is great.  You could almost get away with one coat.  It was just so nice to apply.

It dried smooth and glossy without a top coat.

It may cause staining.  I was lucky because I always swatch with a layer or two of Yellow Stopper, but I could see it staining otherwise.

Company Description:

The Magical White Fox
"Kitsune" can refer to your ordinary red fox, but our "Kitsune" is a glorious nine-tailed creature: fiery, wise, and absolutely gorgeous. In a cream base full of gold shimmer and flecks you will find an array of glitter in a bonfire palette.

My Notes:

In the swatch above, there are 2 coats without a top coat.  I took the picture on a cloudy day at around 3pm.

The formula is just heaven on this one.  It just glided on the nail.  I didn't really want to remove it to do the other polishes.  Haha!

There are so many different glitters in there.  I also like that this one is completely different than all the others in the collection.  I think it will be perfect for fall.  (Or whenever I feel like wearing it.  Dang it.)

Company Description:

A Shinto God
“Tengu” is often depicted as a bird like goblin with a red face and long nose but our interpretation of tengu is a rich vampire dark red in a gold and silver shimmer base.

My Notes:

This one was opaque in just one coat.  Yay!  I took this photo outside on a sunny day at about 3pm.  I also didn't use a top coat.

The formula on this one was great.  It went on nice and dried very smooth and glossy.

Company Description:

The Snake
“Hebi” is a reptile with magical qualities captured by this dark reptilian green in a venomous base of shimmers.

My Notes:

The swatch above is one coat without a top coat.  Yes, one coat!  I always do a little dance for one coat polishes.  I took the picture on a cloudy day at about 3:30pm.

The formula was just awesome.  It dried smooth and glossy on its own.

The glitter also has more of a green tone than my camera was able to capture.

The only bummer was that it stains badly.  I had on 2 coats of yellow stopper and I still got a little staining.

Company Description:

The Changed Cat
“Bakeneko” is a cat that has changed into a Yokai. Our interpretation is the darkest cat of all, the infamous black cat. A deep black lacquer in a shimmery base

My Notes:

The above swatch is of 2 coats with no top coat.

This polish had the worst formula of the collection.  It wasn't horrible or anything, but it didn't come close to the amazing formulas of the others.  It is a lot thicker, and the first coat went on very streaky.   It did dry very smooth and glossy and was opaque in 2 coats.

This one is also very similar to Tengu from this collection, but the shimmer is much more pronounced in this one.

Additional Thoughts:

I was very pleased with these polishes.  You never know with a small brand.  (Especially since many of them are falsely hyped up by sponsored bloggers and vloggers.  Any who...)

These were great, though!  Most of them had some of the best formulas I have come across.  So, I was very pleased.

I hope to road test them more later instead of just swatching them so I can see what the wear time is like.  I like to get at least a week out of my manicures when I am not doing swatches.  Ain't nobody got time to paint their nails everyday.  (And if you do, I'm jealous.  Paint on, you amazing creature, paint on!)

I feel like not enough people talk about this aspect of ordering polish online especially from indie companies.  So, here we go...

Overall my experience was great!

I ordered this collection plus a couple other things during a really great coupon code sale time.  Polishes were going fast!  I added everything to my cart, but the code wasn't working properly.  I went ahead and made the order anyway to ensure that I got the polishes that I wanted before they sold out.

I, then, wrote an email to Rainbow Honey with all the details and explained the amount that the code didn't take off but should have.  They responded back very quickly and agreed with everything that I had written including the amount the order overcharged.  (It was like 8 or 9 dollars.)  I was told that I would be refunded that amount.  Super!

Everything was great.  The lady with whom I was emailing was super nice, prompt, and very professional.  Fabulous!  Only...I never did get my money back.  So, that kinda sucked.  I'm not about to raise hell over 9 bucks, though.  I used to work customer service.  I dealt with crazies like that all day.  I'm not about to become one.

Besides that, everything else was absolute perfection.  The polishes came very quickly, well wrapped, and they even included some free gifts.  It was great!  I would totally order from them again.

My Weekly Photos: 5/8 - 5/15/15

Saturday, May 16, 2015

Way back in the early days of my internet experience, I actually started with a blog that was nothing but pictures that I had taken.  Funny enough, I am still using the same exact camera from more than 10 years ago to take these pictures.  Not as impressive as it was back then, but it still does the job.

(Contrary to popular belief, not everyone can go out and buy a Canon whatever or an IPhone thing nor do you have to have one to get the job done.)

I have already been doing weekly vlog videos on my Youtube Channel since the start of the year.   So, I thought it would be fun to do a personal weekly recap on here, but in photo form.

I guess you could say that all the pretty flowers and furry friends inspired me once again to dust off the old camera.  Be prepared  to be wowed by all 5 megapixels!  (Yes, that was meant to be sassy.  :D)

My definite highlight of the week was going to my dad's church's rummage sale and scoring this beauty:

It was 2 bucks!  I had to double and triple check with them about the price.  I even donated an extra $4, because...I mean, 2 bucks?!

It does have some cosmetic issues: rust spots, dirt everywhere, and a crap-tastic particle board top that's got to go.  The bones are great.  The bottom is triple re-enforced, the legs are high and fully adjustable, the shelf brackets are in perfect shape, and the top is easily removed.  It even still had the original metal shelf with it!

I like that it isn't too deep, because my house is beyond tiny.  So, we can't have furniture that sticks out from the wall very much.

It should be a fun one to refinish.  Shoot...my dad even got inspired and is already out in the workshop making a new top out of some poplar from an old rotten tree he cut down last year.  (I was going to make it myself, but I take all the help I can get.  Haha!)

It should look great once done, because the wood has different colorations, worm holes, and all that glorious-ness.  I'm even thinking of not staining it and just going straight to polyurethane, because it just looks neat.

My dad's green thumb never ceases to amaze me.  I couldn't properly grow a flower if my life depended on it, but he has got mad skills.

Pictured above is one of his many peony splendors.

Funny story.  My dad didn't know that the ants that cover the peony buds were good for them when he first started growing these years ago.  He did everything in the world to ward them off.  Unfortunately, this made it so that they didn't bloom at all for the first 2 to 3 years.  He got lazy one year and let them be.  The result was these gorgeous blooms.  Haha!  The more you know...

We have always had roses as long as I can remember.  This is one of our double knockout roses.  My dad went knockout rose nuts a few years back.  Just nuts!  So we mostly have that variety now.

We do still have one of our heirloom rose bushes that is over 40 years old.  It produces deep, blood red roses that are so gorgeous and impossible to find at stores nowadays.

I know it is 40 years old because of the story behind it.  Apparently, it was a present from my dad's father-in-law when he went to move into the house we are in now.  It was plucked from his yard up on the mountain (literally) and put into a potato for transit.  Must have been one heck of a potato, because the rose bush is still going strong.

I could seriously start a zoo with the animals that I got around here.  (Not that I'm complaining...)

Above is a few shots that I was able to get when some of my furry friends sat still long enough.

We have my old dog Pylet that is too photogenic and majestic for his own good.  He just turned 11 recently, but he doesn't look a day over 8.  Massive shedding is coming.

In the middle bottom photo, we have my buddy cat who follows me everywhere.  EVERYWHERE.  Seriously, I can't take a step without worrying that I'm about to squish this little lady.  In fact, I took this picture after she flopped between my feet.  Bless her.

Lastly, we have the nice tortie kitty.  She is such a sweetheart but is a bit skittish at times.

If you look at her ears in the photo, you'll see one is tipped.  That is because we were able to get her fixed through out local TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) program.  It lets people know that she is fixed and that animals control should never be called on her nor should they pick her up.

(I think there is a special place that is extremely hot and uncomfortable for people that call animal control on sweet kitties, but...that is neither here nor there.  A special, heinous place that they will share with the monsters that abandon their pets and contribute and create the problem.  Grrr.)

Anyway, I just mention this in case anyone is reading this and is trying to find a humane solution to feral cats in your area.  Most programs will fix the kitties for little to nothing and even provide the aftercare needed.  I urge you to check in your area for TNR programs.  It has been nothing but a blessing for me.

I never intended to take a break from my blogs.  So, I didn't think to leave a message before.

Truth is that I have some personal things going on at the moment that have taken most of my time.  I hope to be back to regular posting soon.

Polish waits for no one.  :D

Hope everyone is well.
