Dollar Tree Haul: Odds and Ends

Friday, February 27, 2015

These are a few things that I picked up a couple weeks ago before being snowed in.  Cabin fever is fierce, y'all.

I was happy to find anything at Dollar Tree.  I've yet to see anything new or interesting since the holidays.  I guess my Dollar Trees only get the leftovers.  Haha!  (Haul Video will also be up on my Youtube channel.)

Enough of of that, on to the stuff!

Small Notebook with Elastic Closure

I just thought this little thing was too cute to pass up since I mow through notebooks like crazy.  The paper inside is the typical cheap and thin notebook paper instead of stationary paper.  Still happy with it.

Fashion Pens 3 pack

These are so pretty!  They are in a black, white, and red color theme with roses, Paris motifs, and pretty filigrees.  I picked these up for a friend mail package that I gather as I can.  I think she will really like them.

Fashion Memo Pads 4 pk

I bought this pack for the phone and typewriter pattern one since you couldn't see but 2 of the designs in the pack.  Luckily, I love the paisley and the eyeglasses one, too.  I could do without the peace sign one, but 3 out of 4 ain't bad at all.  The paper isn't nice quality and the cardboard backing is super thin.  I am happy for a quarter a piece.

April Anti-Bacterial Hand Lotions 3 pack

I saw these and decided to pick them up, because I figured they would be like hand sanitizer but less drying.  I should have known better than to pick up an April product, though.  I have never found a product from that brand that I have liked.

I put the Vanilla Brown Sugar one on my hands, and it smells FOUL!  That is not vanilla at all.  That is like my cat took a dump on some burnt sugar and dropped some cheap alcohol-y vanilla extract on it.  No, thank you!

I will say that it didn't dry my hands out, and it evaporated/absorbed rather quickly.  The scents are just horrid.  Thankfully, it does completely dissipate in about a minute.  Blech!

Assured Creamy Cocoa Butter Skin Softener

This is my all time favorite Dollar Tree brand health and beauty product.  I use it on my feet and it has worked wonders.  It also smells like a chocolate bar.  Absolutely amazing!

Just be aware that most store put it in the baby section instead of the health and beauty aisle.  I still have no idea why.

LA's Totally Awesome Fabric Refresher

This is a really big bottle for $1.00.  I usually make my own febreze, but I couldn't passing up trying this one on the off chance that it was really good.

This one is in Crisp Linen scent.  I must say that I am not impressed with it so far.  I have used it about 5 times on my mattress, a couple chairs, and a few throw pillows.  The scent is very weak and fades very quickly.

One of my lovely subscribers on Youtube told me that the one with the yellow label (don't know the scent name) works extremely well.  So, I will definitely pick it up if I see it next time I'm able to leave the house and the snow is melted.

Various Novels That Were New to My Stores

I am always surprised when I see non-political or religious books at my Dollar Tree.  We usually get all the crappy leftovers that no one would ever buy.

Oh course I picked up all thrillers.

Here are the amazon pages for each book if you are curious:

Judgment and Wrath (Joe Hunter Novels)*

Innocent Victims: Two Novellas*

The Helios Conspiracy*

They have pretty good ratings.

Maybelline Color Show in Wine and Dined

This one is very gorgeous in the bottle.  (Not that my crappy camera can show you that.)

Unfortunately, it is quite sheer.  To achieve opacity on its own, you would need at least 5 coats.  So, do be aware that you will probably have to wear it over a solid color if you buy it.

Plastic Storage Basket

Holy color balance Batman!  That blue just made my camera bring out all the orange to compensate.  Haha!  I'm going to use this to house my in use skin care.  Yep, I have a lot.

I actually went in wanting those really pretty ones with the flowers that everyone has been hauling, but alas this one will have to do.

Notes:

* - Denotes a referral link.  Seriously though, don't buy these on Amazon anyway if they are one dollar at Dollar Tree.  Think of all the other items at Dollar Tree you could buy with the price difference.  Haha!  :D

Nails of the Day: Maybelline ColorShow Green Graffiti

Tuesday, February 24, 2015

This is 2 coats of Maybelline ColorShow Street Art Green Graffiti over 1 coat of China Glaze Pelican Gray in late afternoon outside light with no top coat.

I have 3 of the polishes from the Street Art collection.  I don't know why I haven't played with them until now.  I just love the effect that the variety of glitter shapes in there.

To be truthful, I actually started out wanting to do this to opacity by itself.  It was possible, but it took 4 coats as you can see in the picture below of my other hand.

I think that it's looks a bit too rough and messy for my tastes, and no one has time to do 4 coats with drying time.

As a topper, it is absolutely fantastic!

I didn't have to fish for the pieces at all.  I was surprised, because I didn't even shake the bottle before I started even though it's been sitting on my rack for months, too.

It was a big bear and a half to remove, but no worse than other polishes of this type.

Coupon List is coming ASAP

Sorry for the lack of regular updates.

Weather here has been bananas, and we still cannot leave our driveway.

The newspaper didn't get delivered this morning.  Fortunately, I called the gas station that is pretty close to me and they have papers with a smartsource in them.

So, I am going to trek down there and will post the list as soon as I can.

This is not the South I signed up for.

On a better note, our pipes are no longer frozen.  So, we should be able to get the city up here tomorrow to try to fix it.  Oh yes, stuck in the house in a snowstorm with no plumbing.  Happy 2015 to me.  :D

Nails of the Day: Revlon Artsy

Wednesday, February 11, 2015

This is 2 coats of Revlon Artsy over Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro Black Satin with a top coat taken outdoors.  (What a mouthful!)

I just love it!  I make legit dolphin noises when I look at this polish.  Eeee!

More info and pictures under the cut:

I also love the way it looks indoors.  It comes off as a really dark blue until the light hits it and...dark blue sparkly magic-ness!

So I got this polish at Kroger, yep the grocery store, on a random display about 2 months ago.  We take our polish where we can get it out in the boonies.  Ain't no Sephora, Ulta, or even a decent drugstore around these parts!  Haha!

It was love at first site.  It wasn't even on sale, and I STILL had to have it.  (Thankfully, I had a $1 off Revlon coupon, but still.)

So, let's do a little review, shall we?

I just can't stay away from this polish for long.  I wore it over Revlon Top Speed Royal last time (dark blue).  So, I thought I would try it over black this time.

I do think that it looks so much better with an undie (solid polish underneath.)  I wore with 3-4 coats on its own the first time.  While it was pretty opaque, it came off very chunky and not as appealing to me.  Over a dark blue or black, it just becomes gorgeous!

Brush

It has the typical long skinny brush that comes with the other Revlon polishes from the regular line.

Application

I didn't have to fish for any glitter or turn the bottle all sort of ways to get any on my brush.  The only annoying thing was some of the bigger glitters would try to stick up or be hanging off the end of my nail if I wasn't careful.  Overall, one of the easiest glitter polishes that I own to apply.

Dry Time

Fast.  I was shocked, because some of the Revlon polishes that I have take an eternity.  This one barely took more than a minute.  Whoohoo!

Wear and Chip Resistance

This polish is slightly chunky, or not smooth, even with a top coat because of the large hex glitters.  This shortens the time to when it starts chipping quite a bit, especially if you get one of the large glitters near the tip of the nail.

It happened to me today.  I already have a big chip on the tip of my left thumb, because of a large glitter flaking off at the tip.  I can't be bothered to change it yet.  The rest of them still look magical.  Haha!

The most I've gotten out of it was 4 days which is short for me.  I usually always get at least a week to 10 days if I do my proper base and top coats and the whole bit.  I think it is pretty much the same as other chunky glitter polishes: no better no worse.

Final Thoughts

I've been obsessed with this one since I bought it.  It makes no sense.  I have other polishes with better formulas and just as much glitter, yet I still keep going back to this one.  I think I'll actually use this one up to the bottom.  Revlon, you got me good.

Dollar Tree Haul: Glittery Roses and $.50 Clearance

Tuesday, February 3, 2015

How long has it been since I had a Dollar Tree haul?  I swear that store, or at least the ones in my areas, have been nothing short of terrible.

I did manage to find a few cool things, though.  Haul time!  (Haul video up on my Youtube Channel as well.)

----
Salon Selectives 3 Minute Hair Therapy
----
So, everybody and their 3rd cousin is talking about this stuff.  I currently use and love the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle.  I thought I would get this and compare them.  I'm not sure if I'll do a review video or post on my nail blog.  I am just not sure that I want the backlash you get when you are truthful about some of these products.

That being said, I hope it works great.  I'm not too thrilled about the packaging, though.  Can I get a squeeze bottle up in here?

----
Dermasil Bar Soap
----
I have been hunting the face cream from this line to review for my Youtube channel, but I haven't any luck.  I hadn't seen this product from that line before.  So, I just grabbed it.  Hope it doesn't suck.

----
Sparkly Rose Pens - YES!!!!!
----
Is there anything more me?  These just make me so dang happy that I paid entirely too much and bought every color.  No regrets!

----
Dusted to Death by Barbara Colley
----
I thought this looked like a fun and easy read.  Like a lifetime movie in prose.

Let's get into some polish!  I still can't believe my store actually had some!

Milani in 584 Red

Milani in 01A Juno

Wet n Wild Wild Shine in Matte Top Coat

Wet N Wild Wild Shine in Hallucinate

Gem Sticker Sheet - on clearance - $.50

Novelty Over Sized Lighters

Orange Storage Baskets - on clearance - $.25-$.50

Green Hamper - on clearance - $.50

Micky Mouse Halloween Stickers - on clearance - $.50

Blue Marbles - on clearance - $.50

I also picked up these 3 packs of stickers (seen above) for $.50 each.  One good thing about my crappy and tiny Dollar Tree moving is everything that is left in the old part is on clearance.

Twin Dragon Fortune Cookies

I bought these because everyone else was buying them and saying how awesome they are.  Nope!  Hard, flavorless, and just downright unpleasant.  At least, they have fortunes in inside, but I need to remember that just because other people buy it doesn't mean it's good.

Brunswick Classic Hummus and Wheat Crackers

Hard Candy Chocolate Filled Peppermints - on clearance - $.50

Lucky Country Soft Black Licorice

Nails of the Day: Broadway Nails in Easter Annie

Monday, February 2, 2015

This is 2 coats of Easter Annie under a day light bulb.  It is slightly warmer toned and more vibrant in person.

More info and review under the cut:

I had never tried a polish by Broadway Nails before, so I thought I would give one a go when I finally came across some at my local Dollar General for $1.00.

I don't think price often means much when it comes to nail polish.  I've had $1 polishes out perform $10 ones.  I've also had many cases of the opposite as well.

First Impression

First off, the smell of this polish is atrocious.  It doesn't smell like nail polish.  It smells more like home enamel paint that you buy by the gallon at Walmart.  (I have a lot of experience with that stuff.)  It also smells just like the counterfeit OPIs if you are familiar with those.

Brush

The brush is a medium sized brush.  The bristles are very nice.  Nothing spectacular, but nothing which which to find fault.

Application

Despite the smell, this stuff was a dream to apply.  I was shocked, because I wasn't expecting much at all.  I could have probably gotten away with one coat if I had shorter nails.  It wasn't streaky at all.  It just glided on the nail.

Dry Time

It took a very long time to dry.  I know that it isn't a fast dry polish, but I had to wait at least 5-7min between coats.  I would say it took even a little bit longer than the Revlon Colorstay polishes to dry.  Thank goodness for fast dry top coats.

Next time I wear this, I am going to do the thinnest coats possible.

Wear And Chip Resistance

As I type this, I am on day 3 of wear.    So far, not one chip or even any tip wear.  I did put one layer of a quick dry top coat on top.

I just update this again when I go to switch it out.  So far, I am super impressed with it.

Final Thoughts

I am fairly impressed with this polish.  It looks wonderful on the nail and applies like a dream.

I probably wouldn't buy anymore, though, unless it was just a color I had to have.  The horrible smell and slow dry time greatly deter me from running back to the store and buying them in every color.

I will, however, check the display every time I see one to check for new and exciting colors.
