Nails of the Day: Deborah Lippman Mermaid's Dream

Monday, January 26, 2015

This is 2 coats with a top coat (Pure Ice Girl on the Run) under 2 different types of light.  (Can we just take a moment about how this just shines in the sun?)

I still have this one on my nails.  It is day 7, and I just have minimal tip wear.  I am beyond impressed, because I am super rough on my nails.  I'm not one of those girls that wears gloves to wash dishes, scrub the bathtub, or unleash hell upon my foes.

I'm just hoping it won't be too much of a bear to remove.  Other than that, it is just absolute perfection.

I just never in my wildest dreams thought that I would have a Deborah Lippman polish.  I'm still not over it.  I got this in a wonderful giveaway prizemail as a birthday bonus gift from one of my favorite youtubers, Niecy Parham.

These were the particular scents that were ringing up 90% off at this particular Walmart.  There have been people hauling even more that were still regular priced at my store.  Be sure to price check.  I found these in the center aisle wax bin (only 1 of 3 Walmarts in my area have this) and I dug through it for quite awhile.

Here's the scents that I was able to find:

Winter Ski Resort
Christmas Morning Latte
Frosty Winter Nights
Twinkling Holiday Lights
Snowy Winter Woods

Notes:

If you are as obsessed with Bath and Body Works' Sweater Weather as I am, check out the Better Homes Warm Autumn Sweater next time you go in there.  Dead on dupe to my unsophisticated sniffer.  Also, the Frosty Winter Nights is basically Sweater Weather with a spearmint note thrown in.  Divine!

Also, I found out yesterday that the shoe polish is $1 cheaper at Kmart.  Grrr!

Nails of the Day: LA Colors Color Craze in BAM! (with Review)

Monday, January 19, 2015

I don't care that it's winter!  I'm sporting a neon hot pink if I want to!  Haha!

This is 2 coats with a top coat of LA Colors Color Craze BAM! under a daylight bulb.  It is even brighter in person if you can believe it!

I bought this for $1 at the Dollar Tree back during the summer.  This line is also available at many other stores for a $1 as well.

The formula was quite thick as is the case with a lot of the polishes in this line, but it went on very smoothly.  It also dried super quick to a satin finish before I added the glossy top coat.

I only have two complaints: the brush and the wear resistance.

The brush makes it difficult sometimes to get this polish to go where you want it to go.  (That's why I didn't get any closer to my old, dried-out cuticles than I had to.  Haha!)  I think it would be okay with a thinner formula, but not this.

I just put this on last night and I have pretty significant tip wear on 2-3 of my nails already, and it is only midday.  Granted, I am rough on my nails, but I have gotten much better wear out of many other polishes.

I think I might get 2 more days out of it before I would have to switch it out.

Overall, I am loving it: forever impressed with the LA Colors polish so far.

UPDATE:  I wore it for about 2.5 days before I had to take it off, because it was chipped more than I can handle.  It stained a little, but quite minimal.

Review: December Empties

Monday, January 12, 2015

Better late than never, right?

Here are my health & beauty empties for the month of December complete with full reviews.  I will also have an Empties video up on my youtube channel later today as well if that is more your thing.  :)

Body Products

---
Caress Evenly Gorgeous Body Wash

This is one of my favorite body washes ever.  It is moisturizing and smells amazing!  It looks like caramel and has a perfect balance of sweet and warmth for the fragrance. Whoa...

That sounded down right cheesy infomercial.  Haha!

I seriously love this stuff, but I don't know if they still make it.  It went on clearance last year and I had coupons...y'all probably know how that went.

---
Mother Earth Creations Winter Night All Natural Yogurt Soap

I got this in an amazing friend package from the owner of Mother Earth Creations who is a wonderful subscriber on mine on youtube.  I was so excited to try it, because yogurt soap just sounds divine.  (And what is better than homemade soap anyway?)

I used it in the kitchen as my hand washing soap, and it was amazing.  The lather was great.  The scent was great.  And...best of all, it didn't dry out my hands at all.  I would definitely purchase this stuff.  It is one of the best soaps I have even used, and I even make soap on occasion.

Nola Hand Soap in Lemon Verbena and Honey Almond

I can feel the wrath of Dollar Tree addicts about to fall upon me, because...

I absolutely hated these!  There, I said it.  They were terrible.

I got sucked into the Youtube hype of it all.  Everyone was buying these and raving about how awesome they were, but they really fell short.

They didn't produce any bubbles, the formula was really drying, and the scents were awful.  The lemon verbena smelled like Pledge furniture polish, and the Honey Almond reminded me of old, cheap hotel soap.

The bottle were really pretty.  I may even keep them to refill, but with a different pump.  The pump on top is atrocious!

---
Assured Creamy Cocoa Butter Petroleum Jelly

If I had to pick one favorite health and beauty product from the Dollar Tree, this would be it.  It is amazing!  And...it smells like chocolate!

I use this on my feet every night before I go to bed.  I put this stuff on and then socks and wake up to much better feet.  It is very thick and doesn't dry out.  It is very heavy duty stuff.  I will repurchase this stuff as long as they carry it.

Hand down, the best cream for my feet that I have ever used, and I have used some high dollar stuff.

---
Bath and Body Works Triple Moisture Body Cream in Tokyo Lotus Apple Blossom

I can't believe I only used up one this month.  Haha!  I go through these like crazy.

I love these things mainly for the scent.  Don't get me wrong.  The formula is good, but it is nothing special that you can't get in other brands for much lower than what the original retail price of these.

They also only have a shelf life of about 6 months.  So, if you are ever looking to stock up, don't buy more than what you'll use in that time period.  (The body lotions don't seem to have this issue, though.)

I would never pay full price for these, but I buy a ton every year on the semi-annual sales when they are 75% off.  Beyond worth it.  I really enjoy these.

Hair Products

---
Pantene Sheer Volume Shampoo

I did not enjoy this one.  It had the same problems that a lot of volumizing shampoos do: it was very drying.  It gave volume, but in the form of dry frizz.

I would not repurchase this particular variety, because there are other Pantene products that work much better for me.

---
Vidal Sassoon Moisture Conditioner

This stuff does amazing things to my hair!  When I use it, I have minimal frizz, awesome shine, and just cooperative hair.  I feel like I could be in one of those cheesy hair commercials.  (Just not the old Herbal Essences ones, that's a bit much...haha!)

There is a big "but," besides the one I'm sitting on, unfortunately.  It smells horrid!

Seriously, it has some stank!  I don't know if it is just a smell that I am sensitive to or what, because I have had others take a whiff and they aren't bothered.  It smells like moldy, old socks to me.

But...I will forever put up with it, because it works great.

---
Suave Professionals Natural Infusion Anti-Breakage Conditioner

I have said this many times before on my youtube channel, but the Suave Natural Infusions are some of my favorite shampoo and conditioner products.  They do great things to my hair.  They are paraben and dye free.  And...they are affordable and coupon done all the time.

Every time they get to my buy price, I buy the crap out of them.  Love, love, love!

---
Suave Naturals Conditioner in Everlasting Sunshine

I really don't like the Suave Naturals conditioner very much at all.  I keep getting more, though, because it is almost always free with coupons.  The dilemma!

It is not moisturizing at all even on conditioner only days.  I only use it when my hair decides to be oily, but then it still strips my hair pretty badly and I have to compensate with a leave-in conditioner afterwards.

It does make a great shave gel.  I also use it to make homemade fabric softener and febreze sometimes, though.

---
Suave Professionals Moroccan Infusion Deep Conditioning Shine Mask

I absolutely love this hair mask.  I use it on shampoo day to put some moisture back in my hair.  It works wonderfully.

I have gotten to use a lot of higher end hair masks and treatment through subscription boxes and things, and this one is still one of my favorites.  You can't beat the amount that you get for the price point either.

Facial Products

---
Assured Cotton Rounds

I use cotton rounds to apply my facial toner in the morning and at night, and these just don't make the cut.

I really don't like these at all.  They shed like mad and just come apart half way through the job.  I won't be repurchasing these again, because I like the Kroger ones much better and they are almost always a dollar as well.

---
Olive Lips Lip Balm in Rosemary

I got this in an Ipsy bag back when I was subscribed.  (That's a whole story all on its own.  Who got sucked into the hype?  That would be me.)

This was really moisturizing and I love it in Rosemary.  I love rosemary.  I used to grow it and just smell it.  Haha!  It worked great and was long lasting.  It is a bit pricey compared to some others that I love, but if it got to my buy price, I would totally purchase one.

---
Yiri Pibu Parsley Herb Toner

I actually got this in a Memebox (Free from Oil & Troubles 3) awhile back.  It was okay.  Nothing special.

It wasn't very moisturizing, and it had a strong herby smell to it.  I wouldn't purchase one again if I had the chance, because there are a lot of other toners that I like better.

---
Garnier Clean + Smoothing Cream Cleanser

I had seen a few youtubers that I follow recommend this cleanser.  So when I saw some at a really great mark down, I used a coupon and bought a bunch.  But...

I really didn't end up liking it very much at all.  It was drying at or anything, but it left my skin with a really rough texture that I wasn't all about.

I have a couple more in my stash that I have to use, but I would never purchase more.  I have already found another from this line that I absolutely love.

Misc Products

---
Up & Up Strengthening Nail Polish Remover

If you follow my youtube channel, you probably already know how much I hate this crap.  It is terrible.

If you are trying to take off polish with any kind of dark color, forget it.

If you are trying to take off a polish with a decent top coat on, forget it.

If you are trying to take off glitter, HAHAHAHAHA! No.

This particular formula is beyond terrible.  I don't recommend it to anyone.  I, once again, got the curse of the couponer and have a couple of bottles still in my stash to use up. At least I have learned a lesson from this.

---
Oral-B Glide Floss
Reach Cleanburst Floss

It was dental floss.  It dug out the nasty crap between my teeth well.  Haha!

I will say that I prefer the fluffy kind of floss to these, because these can make your gums bleed.  These did the job, though.

Dollar Tree Haul

Friday, January 9, 2015

Sorry.  No Valentine's, Easter, or even Saint Patrick's day stuff to be seen here.  I was never much of a seasonal kind of gal anyway.  :)

Haul Video will be up on my Youtube channel later today as well!  :)

Christmas Cards - on clearance - $0.50ea

One of the Dollar Trees that I went to still had most of their Christmas stuff left and on clearance.  It was crazy.  Apparently, I am not the only one in my area that doesn't like buying a ton of Christmas stuff.  Oh well, cheap cards!

I have enough cards now to send everyone 5 each next year.  Yes!

Dish Brush

I honestly don't know why we bought this.  We have a dish brush.  We have a back up dish brush.  Dad wanted a dish brush.  So, we bought the stupid dish brush.

Mini Calendar in Farmer's Market Design

I crave the spring weather so much that I spent a dollar on a pocket calendar with vegetables on it.  It is about 15 degrees here at the moment, but somehow staring at this gorgeous thing hasn't warmed me a bit.

At least it is pretty and well done!  Brrr...

Mini Glue Stick 26pk

I got a glue gun for Christmas and some higher end glue sticks to go with it.  I thought I would pick a pack of these up anyway to compare to them.  Ya know, for science and all that!

Creamy Cocoa Butter Petroleum Jelly

This is probably my favorite health and beauty item at Dollar Tree.  I use it on my feet before I go to bed, and nothing has worked better.  And...it smells like chocolate.

I slap some of this on.  Put on a pair of socks.  Then, I wake up to almost human-like feet.

Angled Scoops

I hadn't seen these at my store before, but I hadn't really looked for them either.  So, I don't know how long they have been there.

I got these for cat food.  So, I can better see the amount I am giving them for rationing.  I got some big old kitties that like to eat.  :)

The Home Store Scented Oil Plug In in Vanilla Scent

We picked one of these up because it looked strangely similar to the glade ones.  Unfortunately, the only scent that they had was vanilla which in my experience is usually very light.

I haven't used it yet, but I am hopeful.  It isn't that great of a deal over the name brand Glade ones, though, when they do on sale.  You are still paying $2 for 2 of these.

The Home Store Air Freshener in Lavender Scent

I had such high hopes for this thing, because it looks just like the Ferbreze Set & Refresh which is beyond awesome.  Seriously, I set one of those Febreze ones by my litter box and it totally conquers the odor completely.  But anyway...

These are TERRIBLE!!!!  Instead of a proper fragrance insert, you basically get a thick piece of paper with some fragrance lightly spray on it.  It emits a very light scent for about 15 minutes and then NOTHING,

Absolute waste of a dollar.  Poo!

Kitchen Timer

My old kitchen timer died in an non-spectacular manner the other day.  So, when I saw this one, I decided to pick it up.  And...

It works pretty good.  The alarm is nice and loud.  The only bad thing is that the display is very small, and it is hard for to see sometimes.

Calendars.  Calendars?  Calendars!

The new year rolled around, and I couldn't find a calendar anywhere.  So, naturally I had to pick up some, because one of my goals is to get more organized and on a schedule.

I did clean up my office later and find some calendars that I had bought earlier.  Story of my life!  Haha!
